Minimalism: The art of separating oneself from complexity
Often, many people ask us for a very simple answer to a complex question: 'What is minimalism?' So, what is minimalism really?
To start, it is enough to ask yourself this question: How could your life be better if you owned fewer material things?
WHAT IS MINIMALISM?
Minimalism emerged from the derivation of the French word "minimum." Originating in the 1960s, minimalism is an art movement that emphasizes simplicity in modern art and music. Adopting a simple life away from clutter and complexity, this movement aims to avoid unnecessary consumption habits and to be content with only what we need.
THE ART OF SEPARATING ONESELF FROM COMPLEXITY
Minimalism is a lifestyle that helps people question what adds value to their lives. By clearing the clutter in the way of life, we can all make room for the most important aspects of life: health, relationships, passion, growth, and contribution.
WHAT IS MINIMALISM NOT?
Many people try to find answers by asking what minimalism is at certain moments and try to explain it in different ways. However, minimalism is not the same for everyone.
There are many varieties of minimalism: the minimalist lifestyle of a 20-year-old single woman looks different from the minimalist lifestyle of a 45-year-old mother. There are no strict rules or obligations to follow in a minimalist lifestyle. Although everyone adopts minimalism differently, every path leads to the same place: a life with more freedom to have more time and live a more meaningful life.
To start, it is enough to ask yourself this question: How could your life be better if you owned fewer material things?
HOW TO ADOPT A MINIMALIST LIFE?
For every area of your life, you need to adopt what is simple and functional, stripped of unnecessary details.
We are certainly not saying that to be a minimalist you must live with fewer than 100 items, that you cannot own a car, a house, or a television, or that you cannot have a career; that is entirely the part about material goods. If you want to live with fewer material possessions, get rid of your car and television, or travel around the world, then minimalism can help you. But that is not the point.
Minimalism is a tool that can help you find freedom. Freedom from fear. Freedom from worry, overwhelm, and guilt. Freedom from the traps of the consumer culture we have built. In truth, it is real freedom.
CONTRIBUTIONS MINIMALISM PROVIDES US
- It eliminates our discontent.
- It gives us back most of our time.
- It allows us to live in the moment.
- It shows us that we should pursue our passions.
- It enables us to discover our missions.
- It allows us to experience true freedom.
- It fosters the mission of creating more and consuming less.
- It shows us how to focus on our health.
- It reminds us of the importance of growing as individuals.
- We contribute beyond ourselves.
- We get rid of the excess.
- We discover our life purpose.
THE MINIMALISM GAME
Would you like to play a game together? A new year is coming, and if you want to incorporate minimalism into your life in this new year, we can start this game together. Find a friend or family member who is willing to minimize their belongings next month. Get rid of one thing on the first day, two things on the second day, and three things on the third day, and make this a habit.
Donate, sell, or throw away your excess; you must remove all kinds of material assets from your home and your life by midnight every day.
It might look like an easy game at first. Everyone can easily part with a few items, but as the days go by, this game will become difficult.
The one who continues this game the longest wins. If you both last until the end of the month, you both win.
