MTA updates fault map! Here are the 45 provinces in Turkey at risk of earthquakes... Where does Istanbul rank?

The updated earthquake map from the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration has been released.

According to this, there are 485 active faults in 45 provinces capable of producing earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 or greater.

According to the MTA active fault map, the provinces in Turkey with a first-degree earthquake risk are as follows:

İzmir, Balıkesir, Manisa, Muğla, Aydın, Denizli, Isparta, Uşak, Bursa, Bilecik, Yalova, Sakarya, Düzce, Kocaeli, Kırşehir, Bolu, Karabük, Hatay, Bartın, Çankırı, Tokat, Amasya, Çanakkale, Erzincan, Tunceli, Bingöl, Muş, Hakkâri, Osmaniye, Kırıkkale, Siirt 

WHERE DOES ISTANBUL RANK?

According to the list, Istanbul is among the provinces with a 2nd-degree risk.

Tekirdağ, İstanbul, Bitlis, Kahramanmaraş, Van, Adıyaman, Şırnak, Zonguldak, Afyon, Samsun, Antalya, Erzurum, Kars, Ardahan, Batman, Iğdır, Elazığ, Diyarbakır, Adana, Eskişehir, Malatya, Kütahya, Çankırı, Uşak, Ağrı, Çorum

According to the MTA map, the provinces under third-degree risk are as follows:

Eskişehir, Antalya, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Sinop, İstanbul, Kastamonu, Ordu, Samsun, Giresun, Artvin, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, Kilis, certain regions of Adana and Gaziantep, as well as Kahramanmaraş, Sivas, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Kayseri, Yozgat, Çorum, Ankara, Konya, Mersin, and Nevşehir.

According to the research, the provinces in Turkey in the fourth and fifth degree, meaning the lowest risk group, are as follows:

Sinop, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize, Artvin, Kırklareli, Ankara, Edirne, Adana, Nevşehir, Niğde, Aksaray, Konya, and Karaman.
