The second trial regarding the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found in Eğertutmaz Creek 18 days after she went missing in Diyarbakır on August 21, 2024, begins tomorrow. 12 defendants, 6 of whom are in custody, and 3 children will be tried in the case opened at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, which has been merged with the file at the Diyarbakır 2nd Juvenile Court.

DEFENDANTS BEFORE THE JUDGE TOMORROW

In the hearing to be held on Monday, April 14, the detained defendants Maşallah Güran, Fuat Güran, Birsen Güran, Salim Güran's worker Mehmet Selim Atasoy, Mehmet Şevket Kaya, and Muhammed Kaya, as well as the non-detained defendants Şeyma Kaya, İbrahim Halil Güran, Hediye Güran, Barış Güran, Kurtuluş Güran, and Ömer Faruk Güran, along with the children dragged into crime R.A. (16), M.G. (16), and I.K. (17), will appear before the judge.

AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCES GIVEN IN THE FIRST TRIAL

In the first trial regarding Narin's death, the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court had sentenced Narin's mother Yüksel Güran, her brother Enes Güran, and her uncle Salim Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity." Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding the lifeless body in Eğertutmaz Creek, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime."

NEW TRIAL OPENED ON 'AIDING AND ABETTING A CRIMINAL'

The second trial, which will begin tomorrow, was opened on the allegation of concealing the events that took place between August 21 and September 8 and tampering with evidence. In the indictment prepared after the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a prison sentence of 6 months to 5 years was requested for 12 people on charges of "aiding and abetting a criminal." The file of the 3 children who will be tried for the same crime at the 2nd Juvenile Court has also been merged.

AGENDA-SETTING STATEMENT FROM SALİM GÜRAN'S LAWYER

Onur Akdağ, the lawyer for Salim Güran, who received an aggravated life sentence, claimed in a statement on his social media account that Narin was strangled to death by Nevzat Bahtiyar on August 21 at 15:13. Akdağ said, "We will prove this with both charging data and enhanced footage." Claiming that Salim Güran was at home at those hours and that his phone was being charged via cable at home using the USB Power Delivery feature, Akdağ stated, "We have also submitted the footage showing which sofa in the house my client was charging his phone on."

Nevzat Bahtiyar's lawyer, Ali Eryılmaz, responded to Akdağ's claims as follows:
