Naci Görür warns after 4.9 magnitude earthquake in Malatya: 'It has the potential to produce a major earthquake'
According to a statement from AFAD, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Doğanşehir district of Malatya. The tremor was also felt in Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, Kahramanmaraş, Kayseri, and other surrounding provinces. Seismologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür issued warnings following the earthquake.
According to a statement from AFAD, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Doğanşehir district of Malatya.
The earthquake, which occurred at 10:46 AM at a depth of 7 kilometers, was also felt in many surrounding provinces, including Elazığ, Şanlıurfa, and Kayseri.
NACİ GÖRÜR: IT CAN PRODUCE A LARGE EARTHQUAKE
Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, who made statements on his X account following the earthquake, issued the following warnings:
A 4.9 magnitude earthquake in Gövdeli-Doğanşehir/Malatya; it is in the intersection zone of the Çardak and Malatya faults and closer to the Malatya Fault zone. The Malatya Fault is a slow-moving fault.
It is not sufficiently known or studied. It has the potential to produce a large earthquake. It is certain that it was affected by the Maraş earthquakes and has been loaded with stress.
On October 16, an earthquake also occurred in the Kale district of Malatya, causing damage to 2 buildings.
There were no casualties in that earthquake.
