While debates continue regarding the charging of commissions to those who pay with credit or debit cards at vehicle inspection stations, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has announced that work is underway to ensure that commission costs are not passed on to service users in the new tender period.

According to a report in Türkiye Gazetesi, the Consumer Arbitration Committee recently ruled in favor of a citizen's application, deeming the charging of a 128 lira commission on a 1,130 lira examination fee as 'defective service' and ordering a refund of this amount. Allegations that commissions are being charged on examination fees have also been brought to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

In its response to parliamentary questions on the matter, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure recalled that, following intense demand for the use of credit cards, a consensus was reached with the relevant institutions. It was noted that there is no objection to reflecting the commission costs incurred when paying for vehicle inspections via debit or credit card onto the service user.

In the ministry's response, it was stated that "Whether or not to use a debit or credit card for vehicle inspections is left to the discretion of the vehicle owners, and efforts are ongoing to ensure that, in the new tender period, vehicle inspection fees can be collected via credit card without passing the commission cost on to the service user."
