Now there's Dubai chocolate theft... Caught at customs
A woman attempting to smuggle 90 kilograms of Dubai chocolate from Istanbul into Germany was caught at customs. While an investigation has been launched on suspicion of commercial smuggling, the value of the chocolates and the tax details have drawn attention.
A 33-year-old woman traveling from Istanbul to Hamburg was caught at customs control with 90 kilograms of Dubai chocolate in her suitcases.
The inspection revealed that the woman was carrying 460 packs of chocolate and was attempting to bring these products into Germany without paying customs duties.
SUSPICION OF TAX EVASION
An investigation has been launched against the woman on charges of tax evasion.
Reminding that the total value of products brought from outside Europe must not exceed 430 euros, German Customs officials announced that the total value of these chocolates was 2,100 euros.
It was determined that the woman had not paid the 330 euros in import taxes.
According to the report by Avrupadan.com, the woman claimed she bought the chocolates from Dubai for 4.60 euros each and that they were for personal consumption.
However, officials did not find the claim that 90 kilos of chocolate were brought for personal consumption to be realistic.
Stating that Dubai chocolates are sold for an average of 25 euros in Germany, officials have launched a comprehensive investigation into this attempt, which is believed to have a commercial purpose.
