Pink ribbon waves at the Maiden's Tower

Hospital administrators, oncology physicians, and healthcare workers seeking to raise awareness about breast cancer organized an event at the Maiden's Tower.

Breast Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Deniz Böler, who was present at the event, stated, 'We aimed to hold such an event in Istanbul at the Maiden's Tower, which is both one of the symbols of Istanbul and represents girls and women. Our goal is to draw attention to breast cancer and increase awareness on this issue.'

WE CAN BEAT CANCER!

Pointing out that millions of women around the world are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, Böler said, 'Neither our patients nor their relatives are alone in this matter. Finally, I would like to say this: we can beat cancer. We can overcome this disease through self-examination and early diagnosis, by not fearing cancer, by not closing our eyes to it, by being aware, and by supporting one another. Early diagnosis saves lives. Worldwide, including in Turkey, we have lost 30 to 40 percent of women simply because they could not access treatment and were diagnosed too late. However, you achieve success rates of nearly 100 percent in women who are diagnosed early. We want to use this chance while it is in our hands,' she said.

Participants later took a commemorative photo with their banners in front of the tower, where a pink ribbon was hung.

As part of the organization, the pink ribbon, which has become the symbol of breast cancer, was hung on the Maiden's Tower.
