Pro-government columnist Nedim Şener's article from 5 months ago is back on the agenda! Are trustees coming to 23 more municipalities?

While discussions continue regarding the arrest of CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place, a new wave of trustees has come from the AKP government.

The Ministry of Interior announced yesterday (November 4) that trustees have been appointed to the DEM Party-run municipalities of Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti.

Mayors Ahmet Türk, Gülistan Sönük, and Mehmet Karayılan were removed from office. Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun was appointed as trustee in place of Ahmet Türk, Batman Governor Ekrem Canalp in place of Gülistan Sönük, and Halfeti District Governor Hakan Başoğlu in place of Mehmet Karayılan.

While Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, known for his closeness to the government, wrote that trustee appointments would continue, an article by another pro-government Hürriyet columnist, Nedim Şener, written on May 6, 2024, titled "Trustees are on the way for 27 PKK/DEM mayors with terror investigations and trials," has returned to the agenda.

Among the 27 municipalities that Şener claimed would have trustees appointed in his controversial article written 5 months ago were the Hakkari Municipality, which had previously had a trustee appointed, as well as Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Ahmet Türk, Batman Municipality Co-Mayor Gülistan Sönük, and Halfeti Municipality Co-Mayor Mehmet Karayılan, who had trustees appointed yesterday.
