Shock lawsuit against Prof. Dr. Canan Karatay: Is she being banned from the profession?
Renowned cardiologist Prof. Dr. Canan Karatay has become a trending topic due to the accusations leveled against her. Karatay, who is frequently criticized for her statements, will appear before a judge facing a request for a professional ban following a lawsuit filed after the death of a former patient.
Facing serious accusations, it is alleged that Canan Karatay caused a patient to lose their kidneys and suffer permanent disability as a result of incorrect treatment.
The hearing will be held on January 9, 2025.
Prof. Dr. Canan Karatay, who is frequently criticized by the scientific community for her statements and recommended treatment methods, has now become the center of attention due to a very serious accusation.
A lawsuit has been filed against Internal Medicine and Cardiology Professor Canan Karatay, who is at the center of allegations of negligence and malpractice, upon the complaint of a patient who claimed to have lost their kidneys following the treatment provided.
COMPLAINANT PATIENT HAS PASSED AWAY
On Friday, November 8, the complainant C.Ü., who passed away due to esophageal cancer at the hospital where they were receiving treatment, claimed years before their death that Karatay had examined them and that they had lost their kidneys as a result of following her advice.
In 2014, various hospitals diagnosed C.Ü. with 85-90 percent blockage in five arteries leading to the heart following an angiography procedure and recommended 'bypass' surgery with a warning of 'life-threatening risk'.
In 2016, Professor Doctor Canan Karatay, whom the patient visited, stated that C.Ü. was diabetic, prescribed a low-dose medication for high blood pressure, and recommended consuming large amounts of salt.
It is also stated that she told the patient their condition did not require surgical intervention.
It is alleged that the patient, who followed the advice for about three years, saw their creatinine levels—which determine how well the kidneys are functioning—worsen in 2019, and that Canan Karatay, whom they went to for treatment, advised them to see a kidney specialist, stating that "there was nothing left she could do."
LOST KIDNEYS AFTER INCORRECT TREATMENT
While the patient was diagnosed with 'kidney failure' and subsequently lost their kidneys, it is known that they clung to life again through a transplant procedure, but ultimately passed away on November 8 at the hospital where they were being treated for esophageal cancer.
In the petition submitted to the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office during the period when C.Ü. was diagnosed with kidney failure, they filed a complaint against Prof. Dr. Canan Karatay and the hospital where she worked at the time.
Karatay is accused of causing the patient in question to lose their kidneys and suffer permanent disability due to the incorrect treatment she applied.
KARATAY TO FACE JUDGE ON JANUARY 9
The development that Karatay will appear before a judge on allegations of malpractice has hit the agenda like a bombshell.
Canan Karatay, for whom a ban on practicing her profession is being requested, will appear before a judge on January 9.
