AKOM has released data regarding the snowfall that has been affecting Istanbul for 5 days. According to the statement made by AKOM, snow depth was measured at 10 centimeters in the southern parts of Istanbul, and 47 centimeters in rural and high-altitude areas.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has shared data regarding the snowfall that has been affecting the city for 5 days.
According to the statement made by AKOM, snow depth was measured at 10 centimeters in the southern parts of the city, 15-30 centimeters in some areas between the D-100 highway and the TEM motorway, 20-40 centimeters in the northern parts, and up to 47 centimeters in rural and high-altitude areas.
Air temperatures dropped to minus 2 degrees Celsius in the city center, and down to minus 7 degrees Celsius in the northern and rural regions.
Operations were carried out to keep transportation open along the 4,140-kilometer road network under the responsibility of the İBB, involving 13,115 personnel and 3,582 vehicles.
During the efforts carried out by teams in Istanbul over the 5-day period, 84,805 tons of salt and 114 tons of solution were used.
For drivers stuck in traffic and teams working in the field, 83,700 food rations and mobile buffet supplies for 72,000 people were distributed.
While air temperatures in Istanbul are expected to rise in the coming days, İBB teams will remain on alert against icing and potential new precipitation.
