Statement from Gerçek Sarıyer Börekçisi! Here is the truth behind the offal scandal
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that the famous Istanbul-based Sarıyer Börekçisi was included in a list involving the use of imitation food. However, the 129-year-old historic Sarıyer Börekçisi business stated that they have no connection to the other establishment using their name and that they strictly adhere to food safety standards.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which has been announcing food products that threaten public health one by one, included the famous Istanbul pastry shop in its list on November 7.
'Foods Subject to Imitation or Adulteration' and 'Foods Endangering Health' lists stated that offal was used instead of minced meat at a Sarıyer pastry shop in Fatih.
Following the allegations, the 129-year-old Sarıyer Börekçisi, located in the center of Sarıyer, issued a statement.
According to the report by Sözcü, the business's statement said, "The Sarıyer Börekçisi mentioned in the news is not us. We have no connection with other businesses operating using the same name as us.
We kindly ask our customers to be careful about this issue and to obtain our products only from our official and only real location operating under the name Tarihi Sarıyer Börekçisi."
