Striking statement from Ferhat Göçer about Volkan Konak: 'I warned hotel and government officials repeatedly...'

Following the death of master artist Volkan Konak, which plunged Turkey into mourning, striking statements have come from artist and physician Ferhat Göçer. Göçer questioned whether a professional CPR team and an ambulance were present at the hotel at the time of the incident on stage.

Stating that it was of vital importance for a professional team to intervene immediately the moment Konak fell ill, he pointed out that the transfer process to the hospital took approximately one hour.

Göçer said, "In situations where not just minutes but even seconds are precious, rapid intervention and early arrival at the hospital are of vital importance. This delay is irreparable." Furthermore, Göçer stated that he had warned hotel and government officials about this issue repeatedly.

The full statement from Göçer is as follows:

"As a friend, an artist, a physician, and the president of MSG (Musical Work Owners Group Professional Union) and the Federation, I am deeply saddened by the loss of Volkan Konak. But at the same time, I am very angry and thoughtful; I believe the TRNC police must conduct an urgent investigation into the death of Volkan Konak."

'IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR TO REACH THE HOSPITAL'

As an artist who has been performing in Cyprus for years, I have repeatedly warned both hotel officials and government officials that, especially on such nights and at crowded events, there must absolutely be an ambulance and a CPR team capable of professionally intervening in a heart attack.

From the moment Volkan Konak fell on stage, it took approximately 1 hour for professional CPR to be applied and for him to reach the hospital's intensive care unit. In such situations where not just minutes but seconds are precious, such a delay is impossible to compensate for when a transfer to the hospital should have taken place while CPR was being performed as quickly as possible.

We lost Volkan; I hope this painful experience will be a vital catalyst for both the entire hotel management and the TRNC authorities to implement the necessary measures and sanctions to ensure the lives of the people who are their guests. We will be following this investigation closely."
