Striking statement from Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati! Will a ceasefire be reached?

Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati, in a statement to the Lebanon-based Al-Jadeed television channel, noted that he is hopeful for a ceasefire following a phone call with US President Joe Biden's Senior Advisor Amos Hochstein.

"Before the phone call, I did not expect a ceasefire to be possible before the November 5 date," said Mikati, expressing that after what Hochstein told him, he is hopeful that a ceasefire could be reached in the coming days or hours.

Noting that during his last visit to Beirut, Hochstein brought a proposal that remained "secret" between himself and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Mikati used the phrase "There should be no weapons south of the Litani other than those of the Lebanese state," implying that Hezbollah's armed elements must withdraw from the area.

Mikati noted that in this context, the Lebanese army needs equipment to fulfill its duties.

On the other hand, the Israeli press shared a document alleged to be a draft of a ceasefire agreement.

It was stated that the document is a draft of the agreement written by Hochstein, that it is being reviewed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides, and that final discussions will take place in the coming days.
