The ChatGPT era begins in Mercedes vehicles: Cars will be able to chat!

The German automaker has begun rolling out the AI-powered MBUX update to drivers following a beta test that involved approximately 900 thousand U.S. drivers. Markus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer for Development and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, stated that this update will prioritize a personalized driving experience.

The new AI assistant in Mercedes vehicles will integrate ChatGPT's conversational capabilities with Bing's search features to provide more interactive communication between drivers and their vehicles. This system will use the Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service to enhance information access and communication capabilities.

HOW WILL DRIVERS ACCESS THE AI ASSISTANT?

Accessing the AI-powered MBUX system will be quite easy. Drivers will be able to reach the system by using the “Hey Mercedes” command or by pressing the corresponding button on the steering wheel. The system currently operates in German and English.

THE NEW MBUX SYSTEM GOES BEYOND PROVIDING INFORMATION

The new system will not only answer questions but will also be able to understand the context of conversations by providing up-to-date information. This feature will significantly improve the user experience by providing answers tailored to the driver's needs.

FLEXIBILITY IN CONVERSATION HISTORY AND MAP USAGE

The AI assistant will store conversation history for one hour to make it easier for drivers to pick up where they left off. This feature will provide greater flexibility in maps and other in-car applications, making the driving experience more fluid.
