The new flag replaced the original flag, which was first created in 2012, following a joint decision at the latest summit.
The decision on this matter was taken at the 11th Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States in Bishkek.
The flag was approved by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan: Ilham Aliyev, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Sadyr Japarov, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
