The sweet rush of holiday tables! What is the latest on baklava prices?

There are 2 days left until Eid al-Adha. As the holiday approaches, the demand for baklava across Turkey has increased rapidly.

Mehmet Yıldırım, President of the Baklava and Dessert Producers Association (BAKTAD), announced that a daily consumption of 1,750 tons of baklava is expected throughout the holiday.

TRIPLE SHIFTS IN PRODUCTION FACILITIES

Preparations for the holiday began two days before the eve. Production capacity in dessert workshops has tripled.

The intensity, which will continue until the third day of the holiday, covers both physical and online orders. Producers are working at full capacity and without interruption to meet the demand.

CLASSIC AND COLD BAKLAVA ARE THE MOST PREFERRED

Yıldırım stated that the most demanded products are classic pistachio baklava, şöbiyet, mussel-shaped baklava, and cold baklava, which has become popular with the warmer weather. He said these products have become indispensable for holiday tables.

DO NOT CHOOSE CHEAP BAKLAVA

Mehmet Yıldırım emphasized that the most important factor to consider when buying baklava is the quality of the raw materials. He gave the following warning regarding cheap baklava:

"As reflected in the press in recent days, we have seen businesses using moldy walnuts. During this period, consumers should especially avoid choosing cheap products. Consumers who want to eat quality baklava should not choose cheap baklava."

HOW MUCH IS BAKLAVA?

While Yıldırım stated that the price of a kilogram of quality pistachio baklava is in the range of 1,400 – 1,600 TL, he noted that there are also baklavas sold on the market for 500 – 600 TL.

However, he warned that products priced at 200 – 250 TL may carry health risks.

He said that average prices vary between 600 TL and 1,600 TL.
