TikTok expands Family Pairing feature: Here are the new control tools

Aiming to ensure that young people participate in the digital world safely and consciously, TikTok has supported its Family Pairing features—which increase parental control options—and safety measures that will enable teens to manage their screen time more healthily with new innovations.

NEW SAFETY MEASURES FROM TIKTOK

The Family Pairing feature is among the prominent safety measures of TikTok, where young people around the world spend time every day to express their creativity, connect with friends, and acquire new information. With the Family Pairing feature, which allows families to connect with their children, parents can monitor their children's TikTok usage and customize safety settings. Parents ensure their children stay safe in the digital world with safety measures such as setting screen time limits, managing privacy settings, and filtering inappropriate content.

A BALANCED DIGITAL EXPERIENCE

While TikTok's Family Pairing feature offers families the opportunity to closely monitor their children's digital activities, it also supports children in experiencing the freedom to explore and have fun in a balanced way.

MORE CONSCIOUS SCREEN TIME

Thanks to the new updates brought to the Family Pairing feature, which TikTok introduced five years ago, parents can now have more control over teens' accounts.

New features include tools such as Time Away and the Wind Down Feature, which encourage young users to manage their screen time more consciously.

CONTENT SAFETY AT THE FOREFRONT

With the Time Away feature, parents can limit teens' TikTok usage during specific hours, thereby restricting access to the platform during study hours, family time, or at night.

Additionally, thanks to the Following and Blocking Viewing feature, parents can see the accounts that teens follow and those that follow them, while also being informed about the users they have blocked. Regarding content safety, the Family Involvement in Content Reporting feature is being activated; thus, when teens report content they believe violates TikTok rules, they can simultaneously inform their parents or a trusted adult.

NEW CONTROL OPTIONS FOR TEEN ACCOUNTS

Thanks to all these measures, parents can now access and manage more than 15 safety, privacy, and well-being settings. These include options such as re-enabling the STEM feed that teens may have turned off, setting daily screen time limits, and managing account privacy.

GOAL IS TO ENCOURAGE TEENS TOWARD DIGITAL BALANCE

TikTok has also implemented the new Wind Down Feature to help teens establish a healthier balance in their digital habits.

If users under 16 are using TikTok after 10:00 PM, the For You Feed is interrupted, and a notification screen accompanied by calming music is activated. If the user ignores this warning, a second reminder is displayed. Furthermore, notifications are not sent to young users on TikTok during nighttime hours, and this setting cannot be changed.

TikTok continues to develop new technologies and collaborations to ensure the safety of young people and increase parental control options.

These new features, which encourage young people to participate in the digital world consciously, will be rolled out to all users gradually in the near future.
