Timur Soykan recounts his experience in custody: 'Painting and renovations started after İmamoğlu's remarks'
Journalists Timur Soykan and Murat Ağırel recounted their experience to Fatih Altaylı after being taken into custody following a complaint by Erkan Kork, who was arrested on charges of money laundering. Soykan stated that some renovations were carried out at the Vatan Police Headquarters following criticism from İmamoğlu.
As part of an investigation launched upon the complaint of Erkan Kork, the owner of Flash TV and Bank Pozitif who is currently in prison on money laundering charges, journalists Timur Soykan and Murat Ağırel were detained on the morning of April 10 following police raids on their homes on charges of "threats" and "blackmail."
THEY REMAINED IN CUSTODY UNTIL MIDNIGHT
The two journalists were taken to the Istanbul Police Department and were referred to the prosecutor's office after processing that lasted until midnight. The prosecutor referred them to court with a request for their arrest, but the court ruled for the release of Soykan and Ağırel under judicial control conditions.
THEY TOLD THE PROCESS TO FATİH ALTAYLI
The journalists recounted their experiences in custody on Fatih Altaylı's YouTube channel. Timur Soykan also shared an interesting detail regarding the detention process.
He stated that physical improvements had begun in the building after Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu had previously criticized the conditions of the detention cells at the Vatan Police Headquarters.
"WORKMEN WERE WORKING, PAINTING AND RENOVATIONS HAD STARTED"
Soykan said, "When İmamoğlu was detained, he had said that the Vatan Police detention cells were very bad. When we went there now, there was painting and renovation everywhere. They were cleaning. Workmen were working inside. They started the renovations after those words from İmamoğlu," he stated.
WHO IS BEHIND IT?
Erkan Kork, whose name is mentioned in the investigation, has been on the agenda for a long time due to allegations of money laundering and illegal financial activities. Journalists Murat Ağırel and Timur Soykan were detained upon Kork's complaint.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
İBB Mayor İmamoğlu had criticized the physical conditions of the Vatan campus of the Istanbul Police Department, where he was taken after being detained.
According to CHP member Gökan Günaydın, İmamoğlu had suggested at the police station, "How bad are the physical conditions of this place; give this place to the İBB for 1 week and let us turn it into a modern, beautiful Police Department."
