The Treasury will pay 62 thousand TL in interest per second in 2025
According to data announced by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, a deficit of 1 trillion 931 billion liras is projected in the 2025 budget. Interest payments will increase by 50 percent to 1 trillion 950 billion liras.
Important information regarding the 2025 budget was shared by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek during a press conference held at the Presidential Complex last Thursday.
According to the statements, the budget is expected to have a deficit of 1 trillion 931 billion lira in 2025.
Increase Exceeding 50 Percent in Interest Payments
Dünya newspaper columnist Naki Bakır, in his article today addressing the 2025 budget deficit and borrowing requirement, drew attention to the expected increase in interest payments. Public debt interest payments, which will reach 1 trillion 297.8 billion lira by the end of 2024, are projected to increase by 50.3 percent next year to reach 1 trillion 950 billion lira.
It is stated that if there are additional increases in public borrowing requirements, the interest burden will grow even further.
225 Million TL Interest Payment Every Hour
Considering the current interest burden, the state's domestic and foreign debt interest payments in 2025 are calculated as follows:
Monthly average: 162 billion 500 million TL
Daily average: 5 billion 416.7 million TL
Hourly average: 225.7 million TL
Per minute: 3 million 761.5 thousand TL
Per second: 62 thousand 693 TL
