Visibility will drop to zero in Istanbul: Siberian cold is coming, meteorology expert announces the date when snowfall is expected!

According to the latest forecasts from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), heavy rain is expected tomorrow, particularly in Istanbul, Ankara, and İzmir, as well as in the Western and Aegean regions.

SNOW EXPECTED IN 28 PROVINCES

On Sunday, sleet and snow will be seen in 28 provinces. Due to the effect of cold air waves, temperatures will drop across the country and the probability of snowfall will increase.

Meteorology experts stated that temperatures in the northwestern parts will rise by 1 to 3 degrees, but a sudden drop in temperature will occur as of Sunday. The cold air will trigger snowfall, especially in the eastern parts, increasing winter conditions.

WHEN WILL SNOW COME TO ISTANBUL?

Meteorology Expert Dr. Güven Özdemir said that the probability of snowfall for Istanbul increases starting from January 10. Özdemir stated, “The flow of polar air into our country via Siberia and Scandinavia strengthens the snowfall in Istanbul.

However, this precipitation is not expected to cause a major impact across the city,” he said.

IT WILL BE COLDER IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY

Dr. Güven Özdemir said, “The second and last weeks of January will be more active in terms of cold air waves. In February, we may experience days that are colder than seasonal norms and occasionally snowy,” he expressed. Özdemir pointed out that this year will be colder and rainier compared to last winter.

'SNOW CORRIDORS' ARE OPENING

Meteorology experts stated that cold air waves coming from Siberia and the Balkans could open ‘snow corridors’ in our country.

This situation could pave the way for increased snowfall and for it to be effective for a longer period.
