Well-preserved 6th-century Anglo-Saxon sword discovered in England

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF THE SWORD?

The weapon is in a remarkably well-preserved state, featuring a silver and gold-plated hilt, intricate craftsmanship in its decorated patterns, and runic inscriptions. Furthermore, leather and wood fragments from its scabbard, and even beaver fur, have survived to the present day. The ring attached to the sword's hilt may be a symbol of an oath. The sword is being compared to similar finds at Sutton Hoo.

WHAT OTHER FINDS ARE IN THE CEMETERY?

In addition to this sword, a gold pendant was also found in the grave. The pendant features snake or dragon figures, which were types of jewelry typically belonging to high-status women. It is believed that the pendant was a valuable heirloom from a female relative or ancestor.

The graves are located in an early medieval cemetery in the Kent region. However, the exact location of the graves is being kept secret, as excavating the other graves in the area could take many years. So far, 12 graves have been excavated, but it is estimated that there are around 200 more.
