The fire, which started at midnight in the restaurant section of the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, turned into a tragedy that plunged Turkey into mourning.

The rapid spread of flames in the hotel, which was almost completely full due to the semester holiday, caused the death toll to rise. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the fire has risen to 76 and the number of injured is 51.

While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, it was stated that the wooden cladding used on the exterior of the hotel was effective in the rapid spread of the flames.

Minister Yerlikaya reported that the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished with the intervention of fire crews, municipalities, and public institutions dispatched to the scene.

Footage of the first moments of the fire emerged from recordings taken from the hotel's security cameras. In the footage, it is seen that the fire, which started in the restaurant section, engulfed the entire building in a short time.

It was learned that an investigation has been launched into the incident and that negligence regarding the hotel's fire safety is being examined.

While the identification and funeral procedures for those who lost their lives in the disaster continue, the treatment of the injured is ongoing in surrounding hospitals.
