According to a new decision published in the Official Gazette, the age limit for M, A1, and B1 driver's license classes has been lowered from 18 to 16. With this change, individuals who have turned 16 will be able to obtain a driver's license to operate vehicles such as mopeds, 125 cc motorcycles, and four-wheeled motorcycles.
HAS THE AGE FOR D CLASS LICENSES BEEN LOWERED?
Another significant change was made for D class licenses. The age limit applicable to drivers of buses and vehicles intended for commercial passenger transport has been lowered from 26 to 24. This change offers an important innovation, especially for bus and commercial vehicle drivers.
AGE LIMITS FOR OTHER LICENSE CLASSES
The age limits for other license classes remain unchanged. While the age limit is set at 18 for A2, B, BE, C1, C1E, F, and G classes, this limit has been raised to 20 for A class licenses. Additionally, a minimum age of 21 is required for D1 and D1E classes. For DE class licenses, the age limit remains at 24.
ARE THERE CHANGES TO LICENSE RENEWAL PROCEDURES?
Some changes have also been made regarding driver's license renewal procedures. Drivers who have reached the age of 65 will now obtain a medical report every 5 years to renew their licenses. However, for drivers over the age of 80, medical check-ups will be conducted every 2 years.
WHAT ARE THE DRIVER'S LICENSE CLASSES?
The driver's license classes in Turkey and the vehicles that can be operated with these licenses are as follows:
M class license: allows the use of mopeds. To obtain this license, one must be at least 16 years old.
A1 class license: covers the use of motorcycles with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 125 cc and power not exceeding 11 kW. The power-to-weight ratio must not exceed 0.1 kW/kg. To obtain this license, one must also be at least 16 years old.
A2 class license: allows the use of motorcycles with power not exceeding 35 kW. The power-to-weight ratio must not exceed 0.2 kW/kg. To obtain an A2 class license, one must have turned 18.
A class license: provides authorization to use all types of motorcycles without any power or cylinder capacity restrictions. To obtain this license, one must either be 24 years old or have 2 years of A2 license experience and have turned 20.
B class license: covers the use of automobiles and light trucks. The maximum authorized mass of these vehicles must not exceed 3,500 kg. This class also allows the use of M class vehicles. To obtain a B class license, one must be at least 18 years old.
B1 class license: allows the use of four-wheeled motorcycles (ATVs). The maximum mass of these vehicles must not exceed 400 kg (excluding cargo) or 550 kg (including cargo). To obtain this license, one must also be at least 16 years old.
BE class license: in addition to the B class, covers the use of vehicles with trailers where the maximum authorized mass exceeds 3,500 kg. To obtain a BE class license, one must be at least 18 years old.
C class license: allows the use of trucks and tractors. It also authorizes the use of M, B, B1, and F class vehicles. To obtain this license, one must be 21 years old and hold a B class license.
CE class license: in addition to C class vehicles, allows the use of trailer and semi-trailer combinations. For this class, it is also required to be 21 years old and hold a C class license.
C1 class license: allows the use of vehicles with a maximum authorized mass between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg. To obtain this license, one must be at least 18 years old.
C1E class license: in addition to C1 class vehicles, allows the use of trailer combinations with a maximum authorized mass not exceeding 12,000 kg. For this, one must have turned 18.
D class license: allows the use of buses. It also covers the use of M, B, B1, and F class vehicles. To obtain a D class license, one must be at least 24 years old and hold a B class license.
DE class license: in addition to D class vehicles, allows the use of trailer combinations. To obtain this license, one must have turned 24 and hold a D class license.
D1 class license: allows the use of minibuses with a maximum of 16 passenger seats. To obtain this license, one must be at least 21 years old.
D1E class license: allows the use of D1 class vehicles along with trailer combinations exceeding a maximum authorized mass of 750 kg. For this class, one must be 21 years old.
F class license: allows the use of tractors and also provides authorization to use M class vehicles. To obtain an F class license, one must be at least 18 years old.
G class license: covers the use of heavy machinery (forklifts, cranes, graders, etc.). To obtain this license, one must have turned 18.
