What is happening in the media? Claims that 'Ekol TV has decided to downsize'
Following the withdrawal of businessman Mübariz Mansimov, it has been claimed that Ekol TV has decided to downsize. It was stated that while the channel's Ankara office is being closed, 250 people will be laid off in Istanbul.
In recent times, alongside operations targeting media organizations, institutions deciding to downsize due to economic difficulties have begun to draw attention. Journalist İsmail Saymaz claimed in a post on his social media account that Ekol TV has decided to downsize.
According to Saymaz's claim, the withdrawal of businessman Mübariz Mansimov from the channel was a factor in the decision to downsize. While the channel's Ankara office is being closed, 250 people will be laid off in Istanbul, and a total of 300 journalists, including those in Ankara, will be left unemployed.
In the recent period, Erkan Kork, the owner of Pozitifbank and Flash TV, was detained as part of illegal betting operations, and a trustee was appointed to the channel. The sale process of Flash TV by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) was postponed to October 14, and layoffs had drawn attention.
The Criminal Court of Peace had decided to appoint TMSF trustees to 121 companies, including Habertürk and Show TV. Flash TV was among the other media organizations to which trustees were appointed.
In addition to the operations, media organizations unable to make salary and other payments have also resorted to downsizing. While editorial salaries could not be paid at KRT, relocation plans for the Hürriyet newspaper came to the agenda. Cumhuriyet Newspaper made a call for solidarity to its readers due to economic difficulties. It was learned that the office of the "Nasıl Bir Ekonomi" newspaper was closed due to economic reasons.
Following these developments in the media, it was claimed that Ekol TV has also entered a downsizing process. Journalist İsmail Saymaz announced that the layoffs would take place in the form of closing the Ankara office and laying off 250 people in Istanbul. It was alleged that a total of 300 journalists would be left unemployed.
