This statement was evaluated by the Batman Municipality as a stance against the values of society, and the Batman Municipality responded harshly to Sönük's remarks in a written statement.

In its statement, the Batman Municipality said: “The family institution is the yeast of our Anatolia and the unshakable mortar of our civilization! However, we are not surprised by your distorted perspective and hostility toward the family. Being shocked by the work of our Women and Family Services Directorate, which places the family at the center of life, shows how far you are from reality.”

The municipality also recalled the allegations that a male director was appointed to the Women and Family Services Directorate, arguing that such statements do not align with the truth.

Emphasizing the sanctity of work regarding family and marriage, the municipality stated, "Your toxic ideas that disregard women, the family, and the value of the institution of marriage have no place in society. Gülistan Sönük was born in 1993. She completed her high school education in Kozluk. She graduated from the Department of Political Science and International Relations in 2018. Gülistan Sönük was elected as the Co-Mayor of Bekirhan in 2019. According to official results in the March 31, 2024 local elections, she was elected as the Co-Mayor of Batman with 64.52 percent of the vote.
