WHO IS SALİH UZUN?

Mehmet Salih Uzun is a political scientist, journalist, and politician born in 1970 in the Gölcük district of Kocaeli. He is known as the final chairman of the Motherland Party (ANAP), which closed in 2009, and as a former deputy chairman of the Democrat Party (DP).

Uzun began his education at the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of International Relations, and completed his master's degree in the Department of Political Science at Gazi University. He completed his doctorate at the Selçuk University Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, with his thesis titled "Electoral alliances and alternative alliance models in Turkey within the constraints of political parties and election law."

Beginning his political career in the Motherland Party, Uzun served as the party's Youth Branch Chairman between 1993 and 1997, Çankaya District Chairman between 2000 and 2002, and Deputy Chairman between 2005 and 2008. He was elected as the final chairman of the Motherland Party in 2008 and was one of the two figures, alongside Hüsamettin Cindoruk, who facilitated the merger of the Democrat Party and the Motherland Party. He served as the Deputy Chairman of the Democrat Party at the merger congress held on October 31, 2009, but did not take on an active political role following the congress.

Also active in the media sector, Salih Uzun worked as a diplomatic correspondent, program producer, and news director at a private television channel between 1993 and 1997. Between 1997 and 2000, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of Anadolu Agency and as the General Manager of Anadolu Radio and Image Services (ARG).

Elected as the President of the Turkish Democracy Foundation in 2022, Uzun entered the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as a 28th Term İzmir Deputy from the Democrat Party in the May 14, 2023 elections.
