A comprehensive investigation has been launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in and around Diyarbakır. It was announced that those detained were taken into custody on allegations of being linked to the PKK/KCK terrorist organization. Among those detained is Kayapınar Mayor Cengiz Dündar.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the DEM Party mayor of Diyarbakır's Kayapınar district, Cengiz Dündar, was detained. Cengiz Dündar shared a post on his social media account with the message, 'I have been detained.'

ARE THERE OTHERS DETAINED?

Kayapınar Municipality Co-Mayor Cengiz Dündar, journalist Ahmet Sümbül, Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) President Roza Metina, and teachers who are members of the Education and Science Workers' Union (Eğitim-Sen) were detained following searches conducted at their homes.

WHO IS CENGİZ DÜNDAR?

Cengiz Dündar was born in Diyarbakır in 1977. He completed his education at Dicle University's School of Physical Education and Sports, graduating in 2000.

Dündar began his political career in 1997 in the Youth Branches of the People's Democracy Party (HADEP), serving in this role until 2000. In addition to his political activities, he has been actively involved in non-governmental organizations. He has taken part in various social responsibility projects under the umbrella of Eğitim-Sen and the Diyarbakır KESK Branches Platform.

Active in the field of sports management, Dündar was involved in the founding process of Amedspor in 2009 and later served as the club's president.

He was elected as the Mayor of Kayapınar, Diyarbakır, in the last local elections and was detained as part of a PKK/KCK investigation.
