Poppy seed halva receives geographical indication registration
A geographical indication registration certificate has been obtained from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for Burdur's poppy seed halva.
Burdur Chamber of Commerce and Industry's application has resulted in poppy seed halva receiving a geographical indication registration certificate, making it the 14th product from the city to be registered.
Speaking at the promotional meeting held in the Governor's Office meeting hall, Governor Türker Öksüz stated that it is an advantage for the city's economy to be based on agriculture and livestock.
Stating that production is the only way to achieve development, enrichment, and prosperity, Öksüz said, "We need to carry out work that will turn our potential in plant and animal production into output and added value. It is gratifying that our city has received geographical indication registration certificates for 14 products so far. We can increase these even further; we have other products in the pipeline."
Noting that it is also important to register local products with the European Union geographical indication certificate, Öksüz added, "The world is small now; if your product is high-quality and accepted in the market, you can sell it to the whole world. Therefore, as the Governor's Office, we are ready with all our institutions to put forth our best efforts on this path. I wish it to be beneficial."
