6 tips for coping with spring fatigue
Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Meriç Zeydan, who explains that our body tries to adapt to new conditions with the changing day-night durations and climatic conditions that begin with spring, described what can be done to cope with the physical and psychological changes likely to be experienced during this period, which is defined as 'spring fatigue'.
In the spring months, we often complain of symptoms such as a feeling of fatigue, lethargy, lack of motivation, and headaches. If there are no other underlying medical conditions, spring fatigue may have knocked on your door as well. To get rid of this annoying situation, it may be necessary to exhibit some simple behavioral changes.
Explaining that our body tries to adapt to new conditions with the changing day-night durations and climatic conditions that begin with spring, Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Meriç Zeydan listed what can be done to cope with the physical and psychological changes likely to be experienced during this period, which is defined as 'spring fatigue'.
SLEEP PATTERN
Dr. Meriç Zeydan said, ''Sleep, which is the most important time period when not only our body but also our mind rests, is known as an important need for our general health. While insomnia and irregular sleep cause you to feel tired, regular sleep hours will help you feel more energetic during the day. For this reason, try to sleep 6-8 hours at night by regulating your bedtime and wake-up times.''
NUTRITION PATTERN
Dr. Meriç Zeydan stated, ''Do not neglect your breakfast, which is also called the Mediterranean type and consists of foods such as eggs, olives, white cheese, tomatoes, plenty of greens, and cucumbers when starting the day. Take care to get Vitamin C through natural means. In addition to this, consume at least 2 and a half to 3 liters of water during the day without waiting to get thirsty, and limit your caffeine consumption.''
RELAXATION EXERCISES
Dr. Meriç Zeydan stated, ''Yoga and pilates are among the most ideal choices to bring flexibility to your body, which remained partially inactive during the winter months. For this, stretching and relaxation exercises you will do by taking advantage of the morning sun will ensure that your body starts the day vigorously, while also helping you get the Vitamin D you were deprived of in winter.''
OUTDOORS
Dr. Meriç Zeydan said, ''Perhaps one of the most enjoyable ways to exercise is to engage in outdoor activities such as gardening and repairs. Some studies indicate that working in the garden for an average of one hour is equivalent to walking 5-6 kilometers. Such work done in the open air provides flexibility and resistance to the body, while also benefiting the individual psychologically by reducing tension and anxiety.''
WALKING
Dr. Meriç Zeydan stated, ''One of the most beneficial activities you can do on your own is walking. For this reason, we can say that it is the perfect time to restart walks, which were interrupted during the winter months due to cold and rainy weather, to regain the tempo your body has lost. Walks to be done at a medium and fast pace for about 45 minutes at least 5 days a week will both protect your cardiovascular health, keep your blood sugar in balance, and help you enter the summer fit. However, before starting brisk walking, take care to do 5 minutes of warm-up and light stretching exercises to avoid any injury problems.''
GET AWAY FROM THE CITY
Dr. Meriç Zeydan said, ''Spring fatigue becomes completely unbearable when combined with an intense work pace. One of the ways to overcome this situation is to go on a short vacation or go camping. For this, plan a 2-day vacation with your family or friends for the weekend, but do not take work on this vacation. During this time, instead of just lying around lazily, try to discover whatever there is to see where you go by walking or renting a bicycle. In this way, you will both feel more energetic and benefit your cardiovascular health.''
