Alarm in Istanbul! Tick infestation hits this district
A video recorded in Sultangazi shows thousands of ticks gathered together. Prof. Dr. Nebahat Bulut stated that the risk of an epidemic will increase if urgent measures are not taken.
With the arrival of summer in Istanbul, there has been a notable increase in tick bite cases. It has been reported that citizens spending time in picnic areas, wooded regions, and green spaces are seeking medical attention due to tick contact.
Following these rising cases, striking footage has emerged from the Sultangazi district. Anesthesiology and algology specialist Prof. Dr. Nebahat Bulut shared a video filmed in the Yayla neighborhood on her social media account.
In the footage, thousands of ticks can be clearly seen moving along the walls and ground at the edge of a sidewalk on a street.
SERIOUS WARNING FROM AN EXPERT: "URGENT MEASURES ARE ESSENTIAL"
Making a statement following the footage, Prof. Dr. Nebahat Bulut drew attention to serious risks regarding public health. Stating, "This situation is not ordinary environmental pollution; it is a crisis that could directly open the door to epidemic diseases," Bulut used the following expressions:
"Such a high density of the tick population is a serious alarm for a major metropolis like Istanbul. If spraying and environmental control efforts are not launched rapidly, there could be an increase in diseases such as CCHF (Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever) in the coming weeks. Urgent measures must be taken; otherwise, it will be impossible to combat epidemics."
