Bed and sleep science expert warns: Don't make your bed as soon as you wake up! Here is why...
Martin Seeley, CEO of MattressNextDay and an expert in bed and sleep science, has issued a warning to those who make their beds immediately upon waking. Seeley pointed out the importance of leaving the bed uncovered for at least 30 minutes.
Martin Seeley, CEO of MattressNextDay, who has nearly 40 years of expertise in bed and sleep science, has warned that making your bed should not be the first thing you do upon waking up.
AT LEAST 30 MINUTES
Martin Seeley stated the following:
"Considering that the average person sweats 500 milliliters a night, your bed environment is naturally a perfect breeding ground for dust mites in the morning. Therefore, it is important to leave your bed uncovered for at least 30 minutes to provide better ventilation, which helps dissipate moisture and reduces the overall humidity in your bed.
DO NOT TRAP MOISTURE IN TEXTILES
According to the American Lung Association, it is actually the waste of dust mites that triggers physical reactions such as runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing.
According to the report on T24, even if you are not particularly sensitive to dust mites, allowing your sheets to breathe for a while after waking up can still be beneficial. In general, trapping moisture in textiles and many environments is not a smart idea, as it can become a breeding ground for bacteria, mold, and odors. If you find that you can sleep without symptoms, you can continue your routine of making your bed as soon as you wake up. However, if you feel allergy-related discomfort while in bed, trying this new habit may be beneficial.
LET THE BED BREATHE
Many studies have revealed that the best room temperature for sleep is approximately 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18.3 degrees Celsius); interestingly, this is also the optimal temperature for dust mite growth. Since we are currently in a period where dust mites increase due to high summer humidity levels, it is crucial to let your bed breathe for the next few months until late winter, when humidity levels drop."
