Beware of tick and parasite danger with rising temperatures
Aydın Chamber of Veterinarians President Cemil Şahin has warned citizens against the increasing danger of ticks and other parasites as the weather warms up. In his statement, Şahin noted that there has been a significant increase in the frequency of external parasites such as ticks, lice, and fleas as temperatures rise.
Stating that the frequency of ticks and many other parasites has begun to increase rapidly across the country with the warming weather, Aydın Chamber of Veterinarians President Cemil Şahin emphasized that the risks posed by these parasites have increased as citizens and their pets spend more time in open areas.
Advising citizens to take various precautions against parasites, Şahin said, "It is very important not to ignore practices such as using parasite repellent sprays while spending time in open areas and tucking pant legs into socks." He also recommended that upon returning home, they should check their bodies, especially hidden areas, for the presence of parasites and consult the nearest health institution if any are found. Şahin pointed out that ticks and similar parasites can carry serious zoonotic diseases such as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever.
PET OWNERS MUST BE CAREFUL
Stating that pet owners and farmers must also be careful, Şahin said, "They should not neglect visits to veterinarians for antiparasitic treatments for their pets and farm animals. Even if pets do not go outside, citizens returning home from outside must take precautions to prevent the transmission of parasites from themselves to their pets."
Şahin reminded that parasites can multiply rapidly in pets due to their dense fur and similar reasons, and can cause serious harm to both animal and human health. Emphasizing that regular antiparasitic treatments should not be disrupted, Şahin concluded his statement by saying, "Citizens who have regular antiparasitic treatments administered to their pets and farm animals, and who take appropriate precautions for themselves, can rest easy as they are relying on preventive medicine."
