Birth control pill for men
The birth control pill developed for men has attracted great interest due to its reliability and low side effects.
In recent years, there have been significant developments in birth control methods, and among these innovations, the birth control pill developed for men stands out.
Traditionally, birth control has been more of a responsibility for women, and this new development is seen as an important step toward achieving a balance between the genders. The male birth control pill is attracting great interest due to both its reliability and its minimal side effects.
Birth control pills or oral contraceptives are known as methods of pregnancy prevention used by women. Most birth control methods, such as intrauterine devices, coils, and hormone injections, place the burden of preventing pregnancy on women. These methods, which mostly contain hormones, can create some side effects and questions as they may affect the body's natural hormonal balance.
NO IDENTIFIED SIDE EFFECTS
A new drug created by a team at the University of Minnesota prevents proteins from binding to vitamin A, which is known to be crucial for fertility and masculinity in mammals. According to research by the American Chemical Society, this drug is 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy in mice and has no identified side effects.
In experiments conducted on mice, it was observed that the sperm counts of mice that used the drug for four weeks dropped to a level where they could not cause pregnancy.
It was observed that the effect disappeared and sperm counts returned to normal 4 to 6 weeks after the drug use was discontinued. This reversible effect could be the key to preventing pregnancy without a permanent condition.
''DOES NOT CONTAIN HORMONES''
Because this birth control method does not contain hormones, it is expected to have fewer side effects. Previous attempts at male birth control pills largely worked by blocking testosterone, which can lead to depression, weight gain, and a decrease in libido. However, in this method, no such effect was observed even when the mice were given doses well above the normal level.
Another ongoing study aims to provide birth control with a gel applied to the shoulder. Although the research is not yet complete and birth control methods for men on the market are limited, scientists are hopeful that these latest developments in male birth control will allow people of all genders to take control of their reproductive health. With these new developments, the sharing of the burden in preventing pregnancy could become more equitable.
