'Breast size can lead to certain health problems'

Discussing the effects of large breasts on an individual, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon Op. Dr. Kağan Bekircan stated, "Breast size often causes complaints in our patients such as neck pain, straightening of the neck, rashes under the breasts, and bra straps causing indentations on the shoulders. We particularly recommend breast reduction surgery for this group of patients."

''IT ESPECIALLY CAUSES A LACK OF SELF-CONFIDENCE IN WOMEN''

Stating that breasts are one of the structures that form the aesthetic appearance of the female body, Op. Dr. Bekircan said, "It especially causes a lack of self-confidence in women, and this situation is reflected in their social lives. There are various aesthetic disorders of the breasts, and these can be resolved with aesthetic surgeries. Aesthetic surgeries for breast size, smallness, or sagging are frequently performed today. We perform a breast screening on all our patients before breast surgeries. We scan for any masses in the breast before the aesthetic surgery using the imaging methods we employ. In case of a mass, we refer the patient to the relevant department."

''NECK PAIN, RASHES UNDER THE BREASTS...''

Drawing attention to the effects of large breasts on an individual, Op. Dr. Bekircan said, "Breast size often causes complaints in our patients such as neck pain, straightening of the neck, rashes under the breasts, and bra straps causing indentations on the shoulders. We particularly recommend breast reduction surgery for this group of patients. Before this surgery, we create a surgical plan for our patient with detailed drawings and remove the excess skin and breast tissue. After the surgery, an inverted T-shaped surgical scar may remain, starting from under the breast and extending upwards. This scar is red at first and fades towards the sixth month after surgery, turning into a thin line. We recommend various scar-reducing treatments to our patients to minimize this scar."

''BREASTS BEING SMALL OR LARGE CAN BE GENETIC''

Stating that having small breasts or breasts that never grow can develop due to genetic factors and various hormonal imbalances, Op. Dr. Bekircan shared the following information:
"We recommend breast implants to gain breast volume for these patients. There are implants in various shapes, volumes, and heights. We choose the most suitable one among these implants according to the patient's breast structure and request. In this surgery, we insert the appropriate breast implant by entering through a short incision made under the breast. The scar we create in this surgery is short and, since it will be hidden in the fold under the breast, there is no visible scar. This scar is red for the first six months and then fades to the normal skin color. Implants can be used for a lifetime and do not need to be changed. After breast augmentation surgery, the patient can breastfeed in case of pregnancy. There is no decrease in milk production with this surgery."

''BREAST SAGGING CAN OCCUR AFTER PREGNANCY''

Stating that sagging in the breasts usually occurs after weight loss and pregnancy, Op. Dr. Bekircan said, "It can be described as the nipple being below the breast fold line. We recommend breast lift surgery for our patients who complain about this situation, provided they have sufficient tissue. For our patients with insufficient breast tissue, we recommend breast lift surgery combined with an implant. In this surgery, an inverted T-shaped scar, which is shorter than in breast reduction surgery, may remain. This scar fades towards the sixth month after surgery, approaching the normal skin color. After this surgery, there may be a decrease in milk production if the patient breastfeeds in case of pregnancy."
