Chest Diseases Specialist Dr. Tuğçe Hürkal explains to 12punto: 'Mysterious pneumonia has spread from China to Turkey'

The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) stated in an announcement that there is "extreme overcrowding" in children's hospitals in the capital Beijing and the northern Liaoning province of China due to "undiagnosed" pneumonia-like cases.

'4-5 CASES ARE COMING IN DAILY'

Speaking to 12punto about the disease known publicly as 'mysterious pneumonia', Chest Diseases Specialist Dr. Tuğçe Hürkal said, "The mysterious pneumonia has spread from China to Turkey. We are seeing 4-5 cases every day."

'IT SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH THE FLU'

Providing information about the disease, Hürkal stated, "We call this disease, which has been occupying the agenda in recent days, 'airway pneumonia'. The difference between viral infections and bacterial infections is that they strike patients suddenly. If proper and effective treatment is not carried out, the disease can spread to other parts of the body. It should not be confused with the flu."

'TREATMENT TAKES 2-3 WEEKS'

Hürkal continued her words as follows:

"In the pneumonia we know among the public, there is loss of appetite, fatigue, coughing, and back and waist pain. In cases of mysterious pneumonia passed while on one's feet, not all of these symptoms occur. Weight loss, loss of taste, and a gradually decreasing cough are observed. The treatment for this disease takes 2-3 weeks."
