46-year-old Tuğba Onur, who underwent a liposuction operation at a private hospital in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, lost her life during the surgery. The family of Onur, a mother of three, has filed a complaint against the hospital and those responsible, alleging negligence in her death.
According to the family's account, Tuğba Onur, who was a healthcare worker, went to the hospital with her husband, Murat Onur, yesterday morning around 08:30. Stating that a blood sample was taken before the surgery and that his wife was kept waiting for hours, Murat Onur noted that the operation began around 15:30.
Murat Onur stated that after learning his wife's condition had worsened, he went up to the operating room, where he saw CPR being performed and joined the intervention himself. Onur said he was informed about 20 minutes later that his wife could not be saved.
FAMILY DEMANDS INVESTIGATION
Stating that his wife had no known health problems, Murat Onur alleged that when he re-entered the operating room, there was no one by Tuğba Onur's side. Onur said, "Together with my friends, we carried my wife onto a stretcher and took her to the morgue ourselves by elevator."
Tuğba Onur's uncle, Halit Baysal, also stated that a health report was obtained before the operation and that, as a family, they want the allegations of negligence to be investigated in all aspects. Baysal expressed that it should also be examined whether the necessary facilities for emergency intervention were available.
Onur's brother-in-law, Bülent Onur, stated that the incident occurred during a simple aesthetic procedure and demanded that the responsibility of the hospital management and the surgical team be investigated. The family reported that the complaint has been referred to the judiciary and that they will follow the process.
