Dermatology expert warns: 'The key to your skin health is protection from the sun's harmful effects'
Dermatology Specialist Gülden Kökümer, who issued important warnings regarding sunburns and allergies that may arise with rising temperatures, stated, "Acting consciously and carefully to protect yourself from the sun's harmful effects during the summer months is the key to maintaining your skin health."
Dermatology Specialist Gülden Kökümer warned citizens against sunburns and allergies that may occur as air temperatures rise.
Explaining what needs to be done to protect against the sun's harmful effects, Kökümer said, "With the warming of the weather and the increase in sunny days, an increase in various dermatological conditions is observed during the summer months. Especially after a long winter period, sudden and prolonged exposure to the sun can cause various problems on the skin. Sunburns and sun allergies are among the primary issues that can arise in the early period. These conditions can significantly reduce individuals' quality of life. Sunburns occur as a result of the skin being excessively exposed to UV (ultraviolet) rays. A sun allergy is a reaction that manifests itself with itching, redness, rashes, and blisters on the skin as a result of sun exposure."
Noting that there are certain precautions to take and points to consider to protect skin health in the summer months, Kökümer stated, "Using sunscreens with at least SPF 30 protection factor protects the skin against UV rays. Especially avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 10:00 and 16:00. Wear protective clothing such as hats, sunglasses, and long-sleeved garments. Drinking plenty of water is important to maintain the body's moisture balance."
Kökümer added, "Since every skin type is different, it is important to choose sunscreens and moisturizers suitable for your skin. For sensitive skin, fragrance-free and hypoallergenic products should be preferred. Regularly observing changes that occur on the skin and consulting a dermatologist in suspicious cases is important for early diagnosis."
Stating that "Acting consciously and carefully to protect yourself from the sun's harmful effects during the summer months is the key to maintaining your skin health," Kökümer concluded, "By taking the precautions mentioned above, you can enjoy the sun while also protecting your skin health. Protecting your skin will reduce the risk of skin cancer and other skin diseases in the long run."
