Summer advice from Expert Dietitian Akyılmaz: 'Choose foods with high water content like watermelon, cucumber, tomato, and lettuce'

Emphasizing that it is essential to increase water consumption to compensate for the fluid lost through sweating in hot weather, Expert Dietitian Gülşah Akyılmaz said, "Aim to drink at least 2-2.5 liters of water a day. You can add lemon, mint, or fruit slices to make water consumption more appealing. Additionally, consuming foods with high water content also helps you maintain your hydration levels."

Touching upon the fact that outdoor activities during the summer months are good for physical health, Gülşah Akyılmaz stated, "You can stay in shape with activities such as walking, running, cycling, or swimming in the early morning hours or in the cool of the evening. Regular exercise helps with weight control while also increasing your energy."

Emphasizing that eating habits can be disrupted during holiday periods but that this does not mean one should completely abandon healthy eating habits, Akyılmaz said, "You can choose healthier options from open buffets in hotels and plan your meals in a balanced way. Take care to consume enough water and stay active even on vacation. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can sometimes be difficult. During this process, keep your motivation high by setting small goals for yourself and rewarding yourself when you reach these goals. Remember, sustainable changes take time. Be patient and proceed with small steps."
