Expert warns: 'Take lower back pain lasting more than 14 days seriously'

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın pointed out that not every lower back pain is caused by a herniated disc, stating, "Lower back pain has many causes other than a herniated disc, such as lumbar calcification, rheumatic conditions, spinal fractures, spinal tumors, and strains of the lower back muscles. If you have lower back pain that lasts more than 14 days, take it seriously."

Expert warns: 'Take lower back pain lasting more than 14 days seriously'

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın made statements regarding lower back pain. Stating that not every lower back pain is caused by a herniated disc, Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın said, "Lower back pain has many causes. A herniated disc is just one of these causes.

Although only 3 to 5 percent of lower back pain is caused by a herniated disc, there is a misconception in our society that 'I have lower back pain, so I must have a herniated disc.'

Lower back pain has many causes other than a herniated disc, such as lumbar calcification, rheumatic conditions, spinal fractures, spinal tumors, and strains of the lower back muscles.

Since the treatments for these causes are very different from each other, it is actually very important to make an accurate diagnosis.

"THEY MAY FACE SERIOUS PROBLEMS"

Sometimes even a hip problem can lead to lower back pain. It would be the right choice for our patients to take lower back pain seriously if it lasts more than 14 days and to be treated by a physical therapy specialist.

If an accurate diagnosis is not made, the diagnosis will be delayed and they may face more serious problems. In the treatment of lower back pain, we first identify the cause. If the patient has a rheumatic condition, its treatment is very different. If we think it is caused by the muscles, there are many treatments available such as physical therapy applications, ozone injections, drug treatments, and laser therapy," he said.
