Experts warn about chicken: It can be poisonous if these are ignored!

While chicken is a common protein source on many tables, it causes harmful bacteria to multiply rapidly if stored incorrectly. Especially when the storage duration and conditions of raw chicken are ignored, results that threaten human health can emerge.

Experts conducting research on food safety point out that raw chicken should be kept in the refrigerator for no more than 1 to 2 days. It is noted that this duration may vary depending on the freshness of the chicken at the time of purchase.

When storing raw chicken, the refrigerator's temperature setting is also of great importance. If the temperature rises above 4 degrees, many harmful bacteria, especially salmonella, begin to multiply. For this reason, the chicken must be kept in a sufficiently cold environment in the refrigerator; otherwise, even if it shows no external signs of spoilage, the chicken can develop bacteria internally and become unhealthy.

It is stated that after being removed from its original packaging, chicken should be stored in airtight containers. Chicken wrapped in cling film or left exposed can spoil quickly and transfer bacteria to other foods nearby. Furthermore, the knife and cutting board used to cut raw chicken must not come into contact with any other food. Such carelessness increases the risk of cross-contamination in the kitchen.

Checking the freshness of the chicken before cooking is also important. Signs such as graying in color, a heavy and foul odor, and stickiness in texture are seen as indicators of spoilage in chicken. Experts warn that such chicken should absolutely not be consumed, otherwise food poisoning may occur.

It is known that raw chicken can be stored frozen for several months. However, it is strictly advised not to refreeze chicken that has been thawed, as this accelerates bacterial growth and puts the safety of the chicken at risk.

For healthy and safe chicken consumption at home, it is once again reminded that attention must be paid to hygiene rules during the storage and preparation stages.
