Fake medical report scandal in Istanbul: Staff provided samples on behalf of others

It has been revealed that 'forgery' was being committed in medical reports requested for matters such as probation and gun licenses at Erenköy Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital in Istanbul. During the operation, it was determined that some security guards were providing 'urine samples' on behalf of others and receiving nearly 100,000 liras for each report. 5 people were arrested in the operation.

REVEALED UPON A TIP-OFF

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch launched an investigation after the Provincial Health Directorate filed a complaint with the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding suspicions that fake medical reports were being prepared at a hospital.

HIDDEN CAMERAS PLACED IN THE HOSPITAL

The teams, who placed hidden cameras at Erenköy Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital as part of the investigation, determined that some security guards were providing urine samples for medical reports requested for issues such as "probation" and "gun licenses."

Determining from the footage that the hospital's security supervisor left the room with a urine sample and that other suspects assisted in the preparation of the fake report, the teams identified that the suspects were making illicit gains of between 50,000 and 100,000 liras for each report.

1 MILLION LIRA, GOLD, AND FOREIGN CURRENCY SEIZED

Following technical and physical surveillance, the teams identified the suspects' addresses and, in the operation they conducted, apprehended 4 security guards, 2 data entry specialists who had previously been dismissed from their duties due to irregular reports, and 17 individuals who provided samples. During searches at the addresses, 1 million lira, as well as foreign currency and gold, believed to be proceeds of crime, were seized. Of the suspects referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station, 5 were arrested by the judgeship, and 18 were released under judicial control provisions.
