GSS debts to be erased along with interest! Some medical reports will now be subject to fees

A legislative proposal envisioning significant changes to the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law has been accepted by the Parliamentary Health, Family, Labor and Social Affairs Committee.

Accordingly, while some reports issued by family physicians will become subject to fees, all debts of those who did not pay their General Health Insurance premium debts before January 1, 2015, will be wiped out along with their interest.

Thus, the state will waive 2 billion Turkish Liras worth of SGK premium debt.

CHANGES IN THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

With the 28-article proposal, a significant change is also being made to the healthcare system.

Accordingly, the co-payment for physician and dentist examinations in outpatient treatment will be increased from 2 liras to 20 liras.

The Social Security Institution (SGK) will be authorized to reduce the co-payment for healthcare services by 50 percent for those referred by a family physician.

In the co-payment regulation introduced to prevent overcrowding in hospitals, the President will also be granted the authority to increase the co-payment by up to 10 times.

GSS DEBTS WILL BE WIPED OUT

All debts of those who did not pay their General Health Insurance premium debts before January 1, 2015, will be wiped out in accordance with the law.

REPORTS BECOMING SUBJECT TO FEES

According to the proposal, family physicians will be able to see patients for a fee outside of working hours. Additionally, some reports issued by family physicians will be made subject to fees.

WHICH REPORTS WILL BE SUBJECT TO FEES?

For example, in the case of an application for a driver's license report, a certain amount of payment will be required. All fees collected for reports will be transferred to the revolving fund.

The proposal also stipulates that the 5-point insurance premium discount provided for disability, old-age, and death insurance premiums that private sector employers pay to the SGK will be applied as 4 points.

For those working in the manufacturing sector, the 5-point premium support will continue.

The President will be authorized to extend the duration of the support to be provided until December 31, 2026, up to December 31, 2027.

The effective date of the Tradesmen's Ahi Brotherhood Fund regulation will also be postponed to January 1, 2028.
