How do we protect our mental health? Here is the answer...

“Mental Health” refers to a person's overall state of well-being. Having good mental health does not just mean not experiencing mental distress or not having mental illnesses; it is also linked to having good physical health.

It is related to the good relationships we build with ourselves, our families, and our environment, as well as our ability to cope with the daily problems of our lives. It is also connected to our ability to use the knowledge and skills we possess and to feel comfortable and at peace with ourselves.

WAYS TO PROTECT MENTAL HEALTH, POINT BY POINT

1) The most important factor in protecting mental health is keeping expectations realistic. On the path of life, having expectations that are in harmony with what actually happens will help people feel good. Because excessive expectations increase the rate of experiencing disappointment.

2) There is no one who hasn't heard the concept of positive thinking. The essence of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the theory that thoughts affect emotions. Positive thoughts stimulate positive emotions and help people feel good. The ability to think positively is important in this sense.

3) “You are not a tree; if you don't like it, change your place.” Constantly complaining will not only hinder positive thinking but also lower motivation. If it is not possible to change your situation regarding an unpleasant circumstance, you need to change your perspective. Perhaps it is necessary to delve into the deeper meaning attributed to the situation.

4) Creating a lifestyle that suits your personality traits positively affects mental health.

5) If a person works in a confined space, it will not contribute positively to their mental health. In this sense, the importance of career choice also emerges. I recommend that individuals who think they have chosen the wrong profession or job, or who are not satisfied with their current state, re-read the 3rd point.

6) While communicating with many people of different personality traits, interacting more frequently with individuals who have a positive structure and think positively helps people feel better. It may be necessary to stay away as much as possible from those who focus on the negative aspects of events and constantly complain. If these traits are found in a spouse, mother, sibling, or colleague, increasing your level of emotional awareness will benefit you in avoiding their sphere of influence.

7) Based on the saying 'to err is human,' having the ability to accept a mistake you have made without making excuses is an important virtue. The effort you show to correct these mistakes will be a reason to be proud of yourself.

8) At the beginning of this article, I mentioned the rapid flow of life. It would be appropriate to slow down a little within this speed. Ask yourself this question: When was the last time you were left alone with yourself, without trying to finish any work, and without any question marks in your mind? If you don't remember the answer, create a situation that will answer this question as soon as possible. Be alone with yourself.

9) Do not neglect to spend time with your loved ones. Show them the attention they deserve.

10) Value yourself. Believe that whatever you are doing, you are doing valuable work. Do not compare yourself with what others do. Remember that the people you see have a different life pattern. Let your only benchmark for comparison be your own development.
