Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu announced that a new regulation regarding cigarette sales will soon be on the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Speaking on TRT Haber, Memişoğlu stated that the prepared legislative proposal envisions introducing a requirement for a Turkish ID number for cigarette sales. Minister Memişoğlu said, "The legislative proposal that introduces a Turkish ID number requirement for cigarette sales will be submitted to Parliament within a few weeks."
The implementation, the details of which are expected to be clarified during the parliamentary process, is intended to strengthen the control and tracking mechanism for the sale of tobacco products.
Pointing to the work of the Turkish Green Crescent (Yeşilay) within the scope of the fight against smoking, Minister Memişoğlu stated, "According to the study by the Green Crescent, 80 percent of our people want to quit smoking."
