It manifests itself with numbness in the hands and feet

Pointing out the symptoms of diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Specialist Dr. Esra Tutal said, “Thirst, excessive water consumption and frequent urination, weight loss, recurrent infections, numbness in the hands and feet, and in more serious cases, coma are the main symptoms of diabetes.”

If you are also experiencing these symptoms, your diabetes may have started or progressed. These symptoms, which appear especially in the arms, legs, eyes, and mouth, should be taken into account.

Stating that diabetes affects millions of people in Turkey, as it does all over the world, Tutal provided information on what needs to be paid attention to.

“PAY ATTENTION TO THIRST, WEIGHT LOSS, AND FREQUENT URINATION”

Pointing out that thirst, excessive water consumption and frequent urination, weight loss, recurrent infections, numbness in the hands and feet, and in more serious cases, coma are the main symptoms of diabetes, Specialist Dr. Esra Tutal said, “Diabetes is a lifelong chronic disease.

With treatment, blood sugar can be brought within normal limits. Keeping blood sugar within normal limits protects the person from the negative consequences of sugar.

Sugar-lowering medications should be used on time and regularly,” she warned.

“INCREASES THE RISK OF CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE AND STROKE BY 2-4 TIMES”

Stating that diabetes increases the risk of coronary artery disease and stroke by 2-4 times, Specialist Dr. Tutal said, “Over time, diabetes can lead to structural changes in the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. It is also one of the most important causes of chronic kidney failure.”

“DO NOT REMAIN INACTIVE FOR HOURS AT THE WORKPLACE”

Specialist Dr. Esra Tutal stated that excess weight invites diabetes and suggested the following:

"Do not remain inactive for long hours at the workplace. Especially working by sitting for hours in an office environment increases the risk of diabetes. Pay attention to being physically active, and make an effort to walk for at least 30 minutes at least 5 days a week regularly. Prefer low-fat, low-calorie, fibrous foods. Consume fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain foods frequently.”
