Knee osteoarthritis can leave you immobile

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pehlivanoğlu stated, “Knee osteoarthritis is a condition that occurs due to damage to the cartilage inside the knee joint and the subsequent depletion of joint fluid, causing the bones that make up the joint to rub against each other during movement, which in turn causes the patient to experience severe pain.

Knee osteoarthritis begins inside the joint and subsequently causes pain, swelling, and inflammation in the surrounding tissues.

Knee osteoarthritis generally begins in middle-aged to older patients; it arises due to high body weight, genetic-familial factors, and past trauma.

However, it can also occur in younger patients as a result of inflammatory rheumatism, fractures of the bones forming the knee joint, congenital bone deformities, gout, diabetes, and obesity.

STEM CELL INJECTION

Knee osteoarthritis is detected in more than 70 percent of patients over the age of 55. It can intensify and render the patient unable to move. The initial treatment for knee osteoarthritis is aimed at eliminating symptoms through painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, creams, oral supplements, and cold applications.

For patients who do not benefit or benefit little from drug treatments, injections such as cortisone, local anesthetics, hyaluronic acid, and PRP can be applied to their knees.

Stem cell injections applied to the knees of suitable patients can have a restorative and therapeutic effect.

If non-surgical methods do not work, the most successful treatment option, which is the gold standard, is knee replacement (arthroplasty) surgery. Knee replacement surgery is a procedure that yields very rapid results, which are clearly visible to the patient. Patients are helped to stand up the day after the surgery,” he said.
