"Negative news leads to psychological problems"
Stating that negative news negatively affects human psychology, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Enise Öziç said, "The negative news we watch on social media and television today affects us greatly. It would be beneficial to follow reliable sources for news."
Specialist Clinical Psychologist Enise Öziç provided information on the negative effects of negative news on human psychology and methods of protection from them.
"IT CAN CREATE FEAR AND UNEASE"
Pointing out that negative news negatively affects human psychology, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Öziç said, "Many studies emphasize that negative news affects human psychology negatively, and it is seen that this is experienced by many people. The negative news we watch on social media and television today affects us greatly.
Traumatic events, being exposed to these events, the inability to obtain accurate information, and the emergence of misinformation lead to many emotions in individuals such as insecurity, unease, disappointment, helplessness, anxiety, and fear.
The high intensity of these emotions can often prevent an individual from thinking and acting healthily. All of these can cause an increase in an individual's existing psychological problems and can even often lead to the disorder we call post-traumatic stress disorder," she said.
"RELAXATION AND BREATHING EXERCISES CAN BE DONE"
Touching on how psychology can be protected when exposed to negative news, Öziç said, "While there are many things that can be conveyed on this subject, relaxation exercises and breathing exercises can be used to protect our psychological health during this period.
Many studies have proven that these exercises, when performed effectively, are quite influential on human psychology and physiology. It has also been found that walking for an average of 40 minutes a day in a way that increases heart rate by 40 percent is quite beneficial and creates an antidepressant effect in the body," she stated.
"RELIABLE SOURCES SHOULD BE FOLLOWED"
Specialist Clinical Psychologist Enise Öziç pointed out that it could be beneficial to follow reliable sources for news and stated the following:
"Avoiding exposure to all kinds of news, following only a few reliable sources, evaluating news while being aware of the reality of information pollution, knowing that our emotions are normal, providing concrete support if we are able to do so, and otherwise maintaining daily life routines as much as possible will be supportive in protecting psychological health."
