Poisoned after drinking coffee in Beyoğlu

In Istanbul's Beyoğlu district, 26-year-old engineer Ayben Ö. began experiencing serious health problems after drinking Turkish coffee at a cafe she visited with a friend. After taking a sip of the coffee, Ayben Ö. had difficulty breathing and felt numbness in her tongue, leading to her being rushed to the hospital.

Ayben Ö. first went to Taksim Training and Research Hospital, but was referred to Şişli Training and Research Hospital because an endoscopy could not be performed there.

It was reported that no ambulance was provided during the transfer and she had to reach the hospital by her own means. Examinations conducted there revealed a high concentration of caustic substance in Ayben Ö.'s blood, and she was intubated and placed in intensive care.

CHP member Hasan Öztürkmen stated on social media, "Istanbul residents are living by chance! Another food poisoning case! 26-year-old A.Ö. is fighting for her life after falling ill following the coffee she drank in Beyoğlu."

COFFEE SAMPLE COULD NOT BE ANALYZED

It was learned that the sample taken from the coffee Ayben Ö. drank while being taken to the hospital was spilled at the hospital and therefore could not be analyzed. This situation makes it difficult to clarify the incident.

A similar poisoning case had previously occurred in Istanbul, resulting in the death of a family of four.
