Psychological effects of salt consumption revealed
A new study shows that salt consumption can have negative effects not only on physical health but also on psychological well-being.
It has been determined that regular salt use in meals can lead to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. According to the research, individuals who consume salt frequently have a 40 percent higher risk of developing such disorders compared to those who rarely use salt.

The study stated that salt creates negative effects on mood-regulating hormones such as serotonin and dopamine by accelerating biological aging and affecting brain chemistry. This situation may explain the effects of salt on psychological health.
Chinese scientists emphasized that this research is the first scientific evidence that adding salt to food increases the risk of depression and anxiety. In the study, it was observed that even in individuals who use salt occasionally, this risk increases by between 5 and 8 percent.
In the study published in the journal Affective Disorders, data from 439,412 people were examined, and it was determined that 9,516 of these individuals were diagnosed with depression, while 11,796 were diagnosed with anxiety.
