We are exposed to air pollution most during the hours you are in traffic in your car.
When driving, exhaust gases from the vehicles in front of you, pollen in the outdoor environment, and other harmful substances enter our cars through windows or cabin air filters, as if you were driving inside a tunnel.
Moreover, because you are in a very compact and enclosed space, the concentrations of these substances are 6 to 10 times higher than they are outside.
Particles also trigger chronic bronchitis and childhood asthma.
BEWARE OF THE NEW CAR SMELL
Indoor air pollution in cars is not only caused by outdoor air. The highly appreciated “new car smell” also threatens health. This is because this scent is caused by chemicals emitted from the plastic and leather parts used in the interior design of cars.
To travel safely in cars, windows should not be opened while driving, and clean air circulation should be provided in the interior environment through the cars' cabin air filters.
A car's cabin air filter works like the air filter in an air conditioning system and filters out all harmful substances.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE CABIN AIR FILTER BE CHANGED?
A dirty and clogged cabin filter cannot trap allergens, dirt, and dust in the air, causing you to breathe air that is 6 to 10 times more polluted than the outside air. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent pollen and other harmful substances in the outdoor environment from entering the passenger compartment of vehicles using a cabin air filter.
However, unfortunately, many vehicle owners are unaware of the existence of these filters and travel with clogged cabin filters. Because a dirty and clogged cabin filter cannot capture allergens, dirt, and dust in the air, it causes the driver and passengers to breathe air full of all kinds of environmental pollutants.
Additionally, when the cabin filter is clogged, it also reduces the performance of the vehicle's heating and air conditioning system.
For this reason, the cabin air filter of vehicles should be changed regularly every 15 thousand to 30 thousand kilometers.
